The TL;DR: VideoThief does not collect, store, share, or sell any personal data. We don't use tracking cookies, analytics scripts, or fingerprinting. You paste a URL, we process it, you download a file, and we forget it happened. That's the entire privacy model.
1. The Short Version
Most privacy policies are walls of text designed to hide what companies actually do with your data. We're going to do the opposite.
VideoThief is a tool, not a platform. You don't create an account. You don't give us your email. You don't tell us who you are. You paste a link, we give you a file, and that's where the relationship ends. We have no user database, no analytics dashboard, and no ad network partnerships.
If you want the full legal language, keep reading. But honestly, this paragraph covers 99% of it.
2. Data We Collect
Nothing.
We do not collect any personal data. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any contact information
- Your IP address (we do not log it)
- Your geographic location
- Device information, browser type, or operating system
- Any form of user identification
The only data that temporarily exists on our servers is the video URL you paste, and that is processed and discarded immediately — typically within seconds. We do not maintain a database of submitted URLs.
3. Data We Don't Collect (But Others Might)
Many video downloader tools collect the following. We want to be explicit that VideoThief does not:
- Browsing history. We don't track what you do before or after using our tool.
- Download history. We don't keep records of what videos you've downloaded.
- Downloaded files. We don't store copies of the videos you download. The file passes through our servers directly to you.
- Session data. We don't use session cookies, session tokens, or any form of session persistence.
- Referral information. We don't track where you came from (search engine, social media link, direct visit).
- Behavioral data. No heatmaps, click tracking, scroll depth, or time-on-page measurements.
4. How We Process URLs
When you paste a video URL into VideoThief, the following happens:
- The URL is sent to our processing server
- Our server fetches the video metadata and download link from the source platform
- The download link is returned to your browser
- The video file is downloaded directly from the source platform's servers to your device
- The URL is immediately discarded from our server's memory
Important: The video file itself never passes through or is stored on our servers. It goes directly from the source platform to your device. We act as a finder, not a middleman.
5. Cookies & Local Storage
VideoThief does not use cookies. At all. Not for tracking, not for analytics, not for preferences, not for anything.
We also do not use:
- Local Storage
- Session Storage
- IndexedDB
- Web SQL
- Any other form of client-side data persistence
If you check your browser's cookie/storage panel after using VideoThief, you will find nothing from our domain.
6. Third-Party Services
We do not integrate with any third-party services that could collect your data. Specifically:
- No Google Analytics or any analytics platform
- No Facebook Pixel or any social media tracking
- No ad networks (no Google AdSense, no programmatic advertising)
- No CDN-based tracking — we use CDNs for static assets (fonts, CSS frameworks) but these do not have access to your personal data through our site
- No customer support tools with tracking (no Intercom, no Zendesk widgets, no chat bots)
The only third-party resources loaded by VideoThief are:
- Google Fonts — for typography. Google's privacy policy applies to font requests, but these requests contain no personal data and are standard across the web.
- Font Awesome — for icons, loaded from cdnjs.cloudflare.com. No tracking.
- Tailwind CSS — loaded from cdn.tailwindcss.com. No tracking.
7. Data Security
Since we don't collect or store data, the attack surface is minimal. However, we still maintain security best practices:
- All connections to our servers are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
- We do not process requests over unencrypted HTTP
- Our servers are configured to reject unnecessary inbound connections
- We do not run databases that could be compromised, because we don't have any
- Server logs, if any exist at the infrastructure level, are automatically purged and are not accessed by our team
8. Your Rights
Under regulations like the GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), LGPD (Brazil), and similar laws, you have rights regarding your personal data. Here's how those apply to VideoThief:
- Right to Access: You have the right to request any personal data we hold about you. Since we hold none, your request would return an empty result.
- Right to Deletion: You have the right to request deletion of your personal data. Since we store none, there is nothing to delete — but if you contact us, we'll confirm this in writing.
- Right to Portability: You have the right to receive your data in a portable format. Again, since we hold no data, there is nothing to export.
- Right to Object: You have the right to object to processing of your data. We don't process your personal data, so there is nothing to object to.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: Since we never ask for consent (because we don't process data), there is no consent to withdraw.
If you'd like formal written confirmation of any of the above, you can contact us at the address below and we'll respond promptly.
9. Children's Privacy
VideoThief does not knowingly collect information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). Since we don't collect information from anyone at all, this is automatically satisfied. Our tool is accessible to anyone with a browser, and we do not require age verification because we don't require anything.
10. International Users
VideoThief is accessible from anywhere in the world. Since we do not collect, store, or transfer personal data, there are no cross-border data transfer concerns. Your data does not leave your browser in any identifiable form — only the video URL you voluntarily paste is sent to our server, and that is processed and immediately discarded regardless of your location.
This means GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, PIPEDA, and all other data protection regulations are inherently satisfied because there is no data to protect.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we ever start collecting data (which we have no plans to do), we will update this page prominently and make it clear what changed. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
However, our commitment remains the same: no data collection, no tracking, no ads. If that ever changes, we'll be upfront about it before it happens — not after.
12. Contact Us
If you have questions about this privacy policy, want formal confirmation that we hold no data about you, or need to reach us for any reason:
- Email: [email protected]
- Contact Page: videothief.com/contact-us
We'll respond as quickly as we can. No ticket system, no chatbot — just a real response from a real person.
